We are proud and delighted to be able to announce that Lunds Vokalensemble has appointed Ragnar Bohlin to be the new artistic director and conductor for the choir. Ragnar has worked with the choir several times over the past ten years, and these concerts have truly been highlights, both for the choir and for the audience. Ragnar Bohlin is a conductor of the highest international level and Lunds Vokalensemble is looking forward to a fruitful collaboration over the coming years.

Ragnar Bohlin has had a long and successful career as choir director, both in Sweden and abroad, and currently holds a position as choir director and organist at the Maria Church in Helsingborg. Between 2007 and 2021, Bohlin was the choir director of the San Francisco Symphony, and in 2014 he founded the professional chamber choir Cappella SF. Ragnar has worked with distinguished ensembles around the world, e.g. the Swedish Radio Choir, Eric Ericson Chamber Choir, Chanticleer, The BBC Singers, Sao Paolo Symphony and The Formosa Singers in Taiwan. He has also recorded several albums, for instance with Cappella SF and the Swedish Radio Choir. Ragnar has together with his ensembles won several awards at international choir competitions and was in 2006 awarded the prestigious Johannes Norrby Medal for expanding the frontiers of Swedish choral music.

Ragnar Bohlin has a degree as church musician and holds a diploma in choir conducting from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where he studied with Jorma Panula and the legendary choir director Eric Ericson. He has also studied singing with the Swedish tenor Nicolai Gedda, has been teaching at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and has been a guest professor at the universities in Miami, Michigan and Indiana in the USA.

-I’m delighted for the opportunity to work together with Lunds Vokalensemble on a regular basis, Ragnar Bohlin says. Our prior productions together have been some of my favourite choir memories from all of my years as a conductor.

Ragnar starts as conductor for Lunds Vokalensemble in November, but will make guest performance at the concert on Kulturnatten on September 16 at 20.00 in Klosterkyrkan.

A very warm welcome to Lunds Vokalensemble, Ragnar!
