Lunds Vokalensemble and Ragnar Bohlin have been invited to Vaasa Choir Festival where we will perform no less than three times during Saturday May 16th 2026. First out is a short introduction with classical Swedish choir music at the shopping mall Rewell at 16.00, followed by a smaller concert at City Hall at 17.00. Our main concert during the festival will be in Baptistkyrkan at 18.30, where we will perform music by Garrop, Strauss, Alfvén, Martin and Emanuelsson among others. The award winning choirs Spira Ensemble (Finland) and Lunds Vokalensemble (Sweden) will collaborate in an unique concert in Olaus Petri church in Helsinki. The ensembles will present music from the majestic chords of the romance era to contemporary music, all on the theme of light and longing.

Lunds Vokalensemble will for instance perform Stacy Garrop’s rhythmically charged Give Me Hunger and Ulrika Emanuelsson’s playful hommage to Swedish folk music in the choral piece Johansson. Spira Ensemble’s programme includes music by the Swedish composer Sven-Erik Bäck, whose music too seldom is performed in Finland. In his compositions Natten är framskriden and Våren, skillful polyphony is combined with refined harmonies.

The Nordic nature and the light of spring are central themes for the concert, themes that are reflected in the musical pieces where the two choirs will join forces in Aftonen by Hugo Alfvén and the intense Auringon Noustessa by Toivo Kuula.

About Spira Ensemble

Spira Ensemble was founded in 2013 and has under the guidance of conductor Esko Kallio been established as one of the premier chamber choirs in Finland. The ensemble has won the Grand Pirx award at Tampereen Sävel and Yle’s award for best native choir in the Harald Andersén competition.

It is that time of year again… It’s time for our tradiitonal Christmas concert once again! This time we will perform the traditional Christmas classics and music by Cecilia McDowell and Jonathan Dove, together with organist Lars David Nilsson, conducted by our maestro Rganar Bohlin. The final concert of the semester for the choir is a French evening in Allhelgonakyrkan in Lund. We will perform music from only French composers, such as Machaut, Duruflé, Messiaen, Lesur and also Francis Poulenc’s choral masterpiece Figure Humaine.

As the summer is nearing, Lunds Vokalensemble will visit Mariakyrkan in Helsingborg for a summer concert, conducted by Ragnar Bohlin. We will performe a programme that reflects the dazzling evening light of the early summer. Both bright and dusky, light and serious. Present but still dreaming. Music by Schütz, Mahler, Vaughan-Williams, Stenhammar, Lars Gullin and Ulrika Emanuelsson among others.

The concert will be recorded by Swedish national radio (P2) for broadcasting at a later date.
